Terminator 2 Bike evasion exercise.
Objective: To gather data, present as a graph, and analyze the journey of John Connor’s bike ride in Terminator 2. Copy title and objective into page __ of your INB. Read the directions and glue in the table ready to record the times.

Terminator 2 Bike evasion exercise.
Objective: To gather data, present as a graph, and analyze the journey of John Connor’s bike ride in Terminator 2. Procedure: Start your stop watch the moment the boy’s bike starts up. Record the time on the stopwatch when the boy reaches each stage into the results table. Video clip

Results Incident Start bike Leaps bike over hedge
Bike swerves in front of semi Semi hits first car Bike goes down ramp Bike stops near bridge Speed (m/s) 6 9 Time(s) Incident We first see Terminator Terminator shoots at gate lock Terminator’s bike drops into drain Semi’s tire is burst Semi explodes Speed (m/s) 12 Time (s)

Analyze: Convert all times to seconds. Plot results on a speed - time graph. Time goes on the x-axis; this is the independent variable. Speed goes on the y-axis (dependent axis). Label each point that John changes motion: A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H and I. Point A is at time 0,speed 0. Pre-AP: Divide the area below the graph line into five triangles and 4 rectangles.

Plot the data What’s wrong with this graph?
7
Graphs need title, axis labels and units
Identify areas of acceleration, deceleration and when stopped
8
Analysis: Identify areas of acceleration, deceleration and stopped
At what point was John’s acceleration the greatest? Work out the following Accelerations: Acceleration A - B Acceleration B – C Acceleration C – D Acceleration D - E Acceleration E – F Acceleration F – G Acceleration G - H Acceleration H - I Work out the distances between : A - B, B - C, C – D, D – E, E – F, F – G, G – H, H – I, TOTAL DISTANCE =

Divide graph into 4 rectangles and 5 triangles
To calculate the distance travelled we need to calculate the area under each slope. Divide graph into 4 rectangles and 5 triangles A graph to show Speed v Time for Connor's bike ride 2 4 6 8 10 12 14 50 100 150 200 250 300 Time (s) Speed (m/s) Remember area of a rectangle is ? Area = length x breadth Area of a triangle is ? Area = ½( length x breadth)
10
Area between 0-15 seconds = ½(15x6) = 45meters
Area between seconds = ½(3x23) + (6x23) = = 144meters Area between seconds = (9x19) = 171meters Finish off last ones
