6 Differentiated Learning based on Student’s Needs
MATH - FLEXIBLE GROUPS Standards Based Curriculum We use Problem Solving Practices, Envision, Additional Resources, Weekly Math Clinic FOCUSED and TARGETED! Differentiated Learning based on Student’s Needs

7 How it Works: Students will be grouped across ALL 6 fifth grade classrooms Grouped according to a student’s learning needs related to the specific standard and concepts taught for that quarter All 5th graders learn the SAME curriculum and are assessed on the SAME priority standards Flexible groups are re-evaluated and can change every marking period

8 ELA Curriculum Standards Based: Use of Journeys Nonfiction/Literature
Novels Writing Grammar/Spelling/Vocabulary Whole group lessons Differentiation in small group (work on same target skill and vocabulary) Access to Think Central is located on my webpage along with an overview of the program

9 Students will be learning about the following units this year
Ecosystems (1st marking period) Matter and Elements (2nd marking period) Microworlds (3rd marking period) Mixtures and Solutions (4th marking period)

10 New textbook this year Can access textbook by visiting my website What we’ll be studying Geography Exploration European Settlement Colonial Times Government Pre-Revolutionary War

11 Here is what you can expect on a nightly basis:
Math Reading (20-25 minutes a night) Here is what you can expect on a weekly basis Math PAT Reading PAT Write Night Assigned on Monday, due Friday

12 Homework policy: Students who forget to turn their homework in on time will stay in for recess to complete their missed assignment. Having multiple missed assignments will be reflected in your child’s overall homework score on the report card. Assignments books only need to be signed if missing homework becomes an issue

13 Communication Test Folders/Weekly Newsletter:
All assessments and classwork will be sent home in blue test folders on a weekly/biweekly basis. You just need to sign the yellow sheet acknowledging you reviewed your child’s work All assessments/classwork need to be returned in the folder in a timely manner Weekly newsletters will be ed to you to help keep you updated and informed of what we are learning and any important dates.

Four Themes Respect, Responsibility, Cooperation and Sportsmanship We will also focus building resiliency throughout the year Knights Honor Behavior Notices/Restorative Agreements

15 Peanut/Tree Nut Safe School
Snacks eaten in the classroom MUST be peanut/tree nut free Below are the treats that are permitted for parties/birthdays -Soft Pretzels from Jim’s - String Cheese -Goldfish -Wheat Thins - Pretzels -Vegetables -Skinny Pop (popcorn) -Dole fruit bowl (no peaches) -Jell-O Pudding snack -Fig Newtons -Mott’s Fruitsations -Fruit cup (prepackaged) -Graham crackers -Yogurt -Whole fruit (clementine, apples) -Lugi’s Water Ice (lemon)
