1 Year 9 Subject Selection – Real Wild Child

2 Course Description In this unit students explore the history and development of rock and pop music and the social influences on music. Students identify musical styles over the decades from the 1950's to now.

3 Why Study this? Work Tasks Assessment tasks
Listen to music from 1950 to now and explore iconic styles. Re-discover Elvis, the Beatles, Queen, Nirvana… Learn to play drums/bass/keyboard/guitar in selected styles in groups or solo. Use a chord progression and create your own song or Garage Band composition. Performance: Performance of chord progressions and riffs from the 1950's, 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's. Research: Research of socio-cultural influences of the 1950's. Composition: Creation of a composition based on a musical style studied using Garage Band.
