2 What is Sikhism? Sikhism is the religion of the Sikh people. The word Sikh means one who seeks after truth. The first word in the Sikh scripture is "Sat", which translates to truth. Sikhism is based on truthful living.

3 Who is a Sikh? A Sikh is defined as a person who believes in: One God
The ten gurus of Sikh history The sacred scripture “Guru Granth” The teachings of the ten gurus and Guru Granth Baptism according to the method outlined by Guru Gobind Singh

4 How Many Sikhs Live in the World and Where?
Sikhism is the fifth largest religion in the world. There are about 26 million Sikhs worldwide. The vast majority of Sikhs live in the Panjabi, a part of northern India. Sikhs live in just about every major country around the world. It is estimated that nearly one million Sikhs live in the United States.

Finding God in this life and living by his commands helps us to attain God's mercy. 4) Defending Against Injustice Sikhs are a peace loving people and stand for Truth and Justice Guru Gobi Singh Ji said, "It is right to use force as a last resort when all other peaceful means fail."

6 Sikhism Sikh is the religion of the Punjabi race.
Sikh in Punjabi means “ there is only one god” he is the same god for all religions.

8 Guru Nanak The founder of Sikh religion was Guru Nanak born 1469
Guru Nanak passed on this enlightened leadership of Sikhism to 9 successive Gurus.

9 Identifying a Sikh The Kara is to constantly remind the Sikh disciple to do God's work, a constant reminder of the Sikh's mission on this earth and that he or she must carry out righteous and true deeds and actions, keeping with the advice given by the Guru. Also the Kara comes in many forms and sizes, from battle field types, sharp edges. When you wear bana, turban, white bana, Kara, beard, you are declaring that you are committed and have dedicated the self to the Guru and shall serve ALL even those who want to cheat you, or hurt you. A turban is to show respect for the Sikh culture and religion.
