Why is NSLW Important? Helps us increase program participation
Reminds our stakeholders about the importance of a healthy school lunch to kids’ overall health Provides the opportunity to connect with local media and spread the message that school lunch is healthy

#NSLW17 Campaign Goals Help SNA members promote their healthy menus and increase lunch participation. Expand the online marketing reach of school nutrition programs via social media, blogs, newsletters and more. Increase awareness with key stakeholders about the importance of school meals and the role played by school nutrition professionals.

Cooking Up a Promotional Plan
THEME: “Recipes for Success” provides a built-in metaphor for sharing the ‘ingredients’ that make your program a success, from farm-to-school to culinary arts training to student taste tests. TIMELINE: Create a timeline and assign actionable duties to staff members ahead of #NSLW17 (e.g. social media, menuing, media outreach, parental notification) ACTIVITIES: Use our toolkit as a jumping off point to plan fun, NSLW-themed activities and contests for students to get them engaged before, during, and after NLSW. SHARE: Invite community leaders, famous alumni, and other special guests to take part in NSLW activities at your school. CONNECT: Don’t forget to let SNA know about your celebration! Use #NSLW17, or content to

Try Something New Have students compete in blind taste test challenges to win prizes. Implement a recipe contest in your cafeteria. Invite teachers and staff to participate in a little friendly competition. Print a scaled version of a student-favorite recipe for parents. Don’t forget to visit the Emporium for #NSLW17 merchandise.

Sprinkle on Social Media
DO DON’T √ Use hashtags: #NSLW17 and #SchoolLunch. X Use the zoom, which makes photos grainy; crop photos for best results. √ Increase engagement by including links, photos, and questions. X Use blurry photos! Stage photos for optimal results. Move background objects out of frame, and keep the camera steady. Who is your best staff photographer? Let them take point! √ Share photos of healthy menu items. X Post student photos without a signed media release. √ Shoot in natural light when possible.
