2. Defining “machine” Machines make work easier
Machines alter how work is done, not the amount of work done

3. Input versus output
Whatever effort you (or something else) applies to a machine is the work input.
When the machine applies that work to the desired outcome, that is called the work output.

4. How does a machine make work easier?
Machines might change –
1) the amount of force needed,
2) the distance over which the work is done, or
3) The direction of the force

6. Mechanical Advantage
Mechanical advantage can be found if you divide the output force by the input force
