LESSON PLAN GEOGRAPHY THE EARTH CLASS 8
RSOURCES
2
WHAT IS RESOURCES? Anything that satisfies human needs is called a resource . Gift of nature , such as air soil , water , forests and minerals , as well as human creations , such as buildings , roads and so on , are resources because they satisfy various needs . eg , The air that we breath , the water that we drink , the food that we eat, the minerals that we use , our means of travel and communication , are all examples resources.
3
VALUE OF RESOURCES The natural resources are highly beneficial and can be put to any use with human technological efforts . These are a great source of economic wealth of a nation or a country . But , today in this world of advancement of technology, human beings want to make their life more comfortable and luxurious .
5
Four types of value attached to resources
Conservation of forest , animal life and water bodies for future generation had ethical value. Scenic beauty of seashores , lakes, mountain, National park, etc. has aesthetic value. Resources being used for manufacturing or production have economic value. Various acts and regulations related to clean air, water and pollution free environment have legal value.
6
CLASSIFICATION OF RESOURCES
Three types of resources. Natural resources. Human resources. Human-made Resources.
7
Natural resources things which were taken from nature and are used without much change are called natural resources. Air , water , minerals , rocks , etc . are examples of naturals resources.
9
Classification on the Basis of origin
Biotic Resources : All the living things are included in the biotic resources . These are also called the organic or living resources . All type of plants and animals are the example of biotic resources of the earth. Abiotic Resources : Abiotic resources are non – living things . These are also know as the inorganic or non-living resources. Soils, minerals ,rocks are the important abiotic resources of the earth.
11
Classification on the basis of distribution
Two type basis of distribution. Ubiquitous. Localized. Ubiquitous Resources : These resources are found everywhere on the earth like air, soil, land, etc. Localized resources : There are resources which are found only in certain places ,are as known as localized resources . Copper, iron , ore and water , etc.
13
CLASSIFICATION ON THE BASIS OF RENEWABILITY
Renewability or Inexhaustible Resources : The resources that can renewed or replenished quickly are called the renewable resources. These resources are unlimited .solar energy ,water energy wind energy. Non-renewable or Exhaustible Resources : Resources which take thousands of year to get replenished are called non-renewable resources.
15
Classification on the basis of the level of development
Development resources are two types. Potential resources . Actual resources . Potential resources : there are certain resources are not being used presently , nor much is known about them as yet . Moreover , the technology required to exploit and utilize them may also not be available. These natural resources are called potential resources.
16
Actual Resources :The resources which are actually in use or already being utilize by humans are called actual resources. Energy resources such as coal, petroleum, uranium, etc. for example, River , sutlej has been tamed, power projects havebeen set up on it and electricity is being generated. This has become a developed resources.
18
HUMAN RESOURCES People who are useful to the society are called human resources. What sorts of people are useful to others? The people who are healthy , educated , skilled and have right moral values are useful to the society. Infact , human resources is the most important resource.
20
HUMAN – MADE RESOURCES These are basically the aids of production which have been created by human to utilizethe physical materials of the environment. Technology , capital , building, agricultural. Land, manufactured goods.
22
CONSERVATION OF RESOURCES
Nothing in this universe is in unlimited supply and there is no limit to the human needs. We are exploiting a particular resource, it becomes our duty to conserve that resource. This applies more for non-renewable resources. Thus, using resources carefully so as to giving them gap to get renewed is called ‘conservation of resources’.
24
SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
Sustainable development we mean exploitation of resources in a way they serve us better and longer than they would otherwise. Sustainable development not only aims at meeting the present requirements but also take care of the future generation. Quality of human life should be improved. Respect and care should be given to all forms of life. Diversity of the earth should be conserved.
25
