What is a Doula What is a Doulagiver What is a Doulagiver Care Consultant

4 WHAT IS A DOULA? Doula comes from the ancient Greek meaning “a woman who serves”. Doula provides continuous emotional and practical non-medical support. Most closely associated with birth, such as a midwife. EOL Doula undergoes special training to assist the dying and their family members.

5 WHAT IS A DOULAGIVER? Guides family members through the process of death and what to expect. Acts as an advocate with representatives of hospitals, funeral homes, and others involved in death process. Offers comfort, support and companionship. Works with someone who has 18 months or less to live.

6 WHAT IS A DOULAGIVER CARE CONSULTANT?
Begins the conversation early on. Meets with families to review advance directives and other end of life planning paperwork. Facilitates family meetings to ensure the client’s wishes are communicated and followed.

8 BENEFITS TO HOSPICE AGENCY
Marketing Tool. EOL Doula Program is the most progressive marketing tool available at this time and increases community awareness of hospice in a whole new and positive light. Earlier Admission Dates. The median length of stay on hospice to date is 20 days or less. Increased Length of Stay. Community knows about doulas and the added support they provide to both patient and family. This decreases the fear of the EOL patient and family. This equals earlier admission = increased length of stay = increased revenue for the hospice agency. Increased Satisfaction. Family and patient satisfaction scores increase meaning happy families = positive word of mouth = increased revenue.
