TRAINING… CERTIFICATION…
K9’s and their handlers go through extensive training CERTIFICATION… All K9’s must be certified – Ocala’s K9’s are dual certified in patrol and narcotics detection

TRAINING Basic K-9 Handler Certification
The Officer and their canine partner must complete 480 hours of training to become a certified K9 handler and complete the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) certification. This course is instructed by Officers Gerard “Rod” King and Michelle Green, Ocala Police Department FDLE certification: Obedience Apprehension / Gun Fire Building Searches Area Searches

K9 TRAINING NAPWADA (North American Police Work Dog Association)
continued NAPWADA (North American Police Work Dog Association) This is a secondary certification that the Ocala Police Department sends their K9 handlers to for enhanced training and reliability during court proceedings. The K-9 handlers obtain certification in the following areas: Sociability, Obedience, Tracking and Trailing, Manwork (Muzzle work, apprehension, aggression, gunfire apprehension, outing), Building Searches, Area searches, and Article Searches.

NOCSAR (National Organization Certifying Search and Rescue)
K9 TRAINING continued NOCSAR (National Organization Certifying Search and Rescue) This is an additional cadaver certification that Officer King holds. He is the only certified cadaver handler in Marion County.
