1 In the Beginning… (Studies in Genesis)
Who is the Savior? In the Beginning… (Studies in Genesis)

2 Introduction The Old Testament, written over a period of years, repeatedly references the coming Messiah. These prophecies were fulfilled in Jesus Christ. Along with the eye-witness testimony of the apostles, and the confirming miracles of the Holy Spirit, fulfilled prophecy offers conclusive proof that Jesus is the Son of God (John 5:39-47; 2 Pet. 1:16-21).

3 The Seed of Woman In the beginning, God prophetically foreshadowed the promise of salvation. As the first human couple faced the terrible consequences of their rebellion, God mercifully prophesied that the seed of woman would deal a death-blow to the Serpent (Gen. 3:15).

4 The Seed of Woman Later, Isaiah said, “Behold, a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His name Immanuel” (Isa. 7:14; cf. also 9:6). These promises were fulfilled when Jesus was born of a virgin (Matt. 1:18-25; Luke 1:26-38; Gal. 4:4-5).

5 The Seed of Woman Note also the enmity (i.e., animosity, hatred, hostility) that would exist between Satan and the woman, his followers and her seed (Gen. 3:15; Matt. 3:7-10; 23:29-33; John 8:44-47; Acts 13:8-12; 1 John 3:7-10). Through living a perfect life and dying on the cross, Jesus dealt a death-blow to Satan (Luke 10:17-18; John 12:31-33; 14:28-31; 16:8-11; Heb. 2:14-15; 1 John 3:7-8; Rev. 12:1-17).

6 The Seed of Abraham God made a three-fold promise unto Abraham (Gen. 12:1-7; 13:14-17; 22:15-18). Land Nation Seed

7 The Seed of Abraham The Nation Promise was fulfilled in the time of Moses (Exod. 19:5-8). The Land Promise was fulfilled in the time of Joshua (Josh. 21:44-45; 23:14). The Seed Promise was fulfilled in the person of Jesus Christ (Matt. 1:1; Gal. 3:16).

8 Repetition of the Promise
As time advanced, God’s promise to Abraham was repeated, becoming ever more focused and specific. Isaac, not Ishmael, was the son of promise (Gen. 26:1-5). Jacob, not Esau, received the blessing and the birthright (Gen. 28:10-19).

9 Repetition of the Promise
Of the twelve sons/tribes of Israel, only Judah possessed the sovereign right to rule (Gen. 49:8- 10). Out of all the families of Judah, the Messiah came through the lineage of David (2 Sam. 7:12- 13; Isa. 11:1-2; Jer. 23:5-6).

10 Repetition of the Promise
Jesus Christ – descendant of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Judah and David – is fulfillment of these prophecies (Matt. 1:1; Luke 1:31-33; Acts 13:22- 23; Rom. 1:1-4; Rev. 3:7; 5:4-5; 22:16).

11 Conclusion Are you an heir of God’s promise (Luke 24:44-49; Acts 2:33-40; Gal. 3:26-29)? Are you on the winning or the losing side (Rom. 16:17-20; 1 John 3:4-10; Rev. 20:7-15)?
