What Are the Root Causes of Child Labour in Hargeisa, Somaliland?
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY:
Descriptive and Qualitative method including: desk review analysis of relevant documents and literature, individual and focus group discussion interviews with the individuals working with child protection organizations and parents in Hargeisa.

3. RESEARCH FINDINGS:
Poverty, droughts, family separation, and loss of properties are primary drivers
Children work very difficult jobs such car wash, casual work, and shoe shining for boys, while girls work as housemaids, selling tea, Khat and are at risk of exploitation
The majority of participants do not know any policy, act or law that protects children.
Men showed greater awareness than the women respondents, recognizing child labour as a child rights violations. Men have better opportunities to attend capacity building training on child protection, while women are left behind to take care of household affairs.
