What’s the most important thing to a Muslim?
I bear witness that there is no god but God and that Muhammad is the Messenger of God. He is Allah, the One and Only; Allah, the Eternal, Absolute; None is born of Him, nor is He born; And there is none like Him. It is Allah alone who created all things, is all things. We would have nothing without Allah. Can you think of one way they could impact a believer? What do these statements mean? What do they all have in common?

The Oneness and the unity of God.

Apply Tawhid Spot the Difference
Draw out that a key difference between Christianity and Islam is the use of images. Explain to students that the belief in the oneness of God means Muslims do not allow images or pictures of God because he is unique, there is nothing we can compare God to. So a Mosque will be decorated with geometric patterns or with verses from the Qur’an. They also do not allow images of Muhammad as he should not be worshiped as this would be idolatry.

Watch the following clip…
Apply Tawhid Watch the following clip… How would a Muslim respond to what he is saying? For Muslims it is not enough to just believe in one God, they must show this in their daily lives. Muslims must never make anything in their lives more important than God, including their family, their money or their jobs. Watch the clip on the greed speech from the original wolf of wall street where he says that ‘greed is good’. Get students to apply the idea of Tawhid to this. Explain how important it is for Muslims to show their belief in the oneness of God in their daily lives.
12
Apply Tawhid On one post it note write down an example of Tawhid in action and on the other post it note write down an example of Tawhid not in action. Tawhid in Action Tawhid not in Action Summarise their understanding of how Tawhid applies to a Muslim’s everyday life by getting students to give examples of Tawhid in action and not in action.
