1 Digital Technology in the Kitchen: Stop Motion Videos

2 Stop-Motion Videos We can use stop-motion animation to create short videos that demonstrate how to make certain parts of a recipe. Great addition for your e-portfolios to integrate multimedia. Stop motion animation use a series of images, sequenced together and run back to create an illusion of movement. The objects need to be manipulated/moved in front of the camera and then a photo is taken. It creates an illusion of movement. Here is an example of a stop-motion:

3 Stop-Motion Animation vs. Time-lapse Photography
Stop-motion and time-lapse videos are very similar in that they both use a series of images, sequenced together and played backed to create illusion of movement. In time-lapse photography, the camera is set up and a timer is set to take pictures every_____ secs of what is happening in front of the camera. This is different then stop-motion, because the artists have to pause, manipulate the material in front of a camera and control when the photo is taken. Time-lapse example: You can use stop-motion to create time-lapse type videos.

4 Stop-Motion Animation vs. Time-lapse Photography
You can use stop-motion to create time-lapse type videos. My attempt:

5 Stop-Motion Animation Tutorial
On iPhones and Andriod devices you can download the app: Stop Motion Studio You can choose to use another app Tutorial:

6 Stop-Motion Animation Tips
Object Moves in small increments 1 second of video = 10 still shots (10 is at the higher end, can be fewer depending on the speed you playback the video) The more shots you have the more your video will flow. Consider moving different parts of the object to make it more life-like than inanimate. Camera/Setting Have the camera still in one place, perhaps a partner can hold the camera and take the photos

7 Assignment For your blog, create a video. Due April 17th.
Length: At least 20 seconds minimum Stop-motion or time-lapse or combination of both Can be made during class or at home with any of the recipes for term 3. Post with the blog post and describe in the post which component of the recipe the video shows. Work with a partner.

8 Assignment Marking Criteria Mark Creativity
- Are there additional elements such as attempt at making the stop motion look animated, music, or text? /5 Execution - Does the video flow smoothly? - Is the filming well done? - Is the steps of the recipe understandable? /10 Meet requirements: - At least 20 seconds long - Stop motion, time-lapse or combination of both. - Posted by April 17th /3 Total /18
