What are the sources of information for the NET program?
BIT website: BIT Handbook Schedule is for convenience…refer to Carleton Central for your official schedule Demo contact info for key people Carleton website: Undergraduate calendar (Courses, programs, regulations, etc.) All BIT classes follow Carleton’s term calendar (not Algonquin’s): Important Dates for the academic year Algonquin Student Handbook: Blackboard College Services Health Services, Lost & Found, Peer Tutoring, Parking, etc College Directives Quick Reference Phone Numbers

What are the lab sections for? When do they start?
Labs = hands on Several lab sections (section Ax) so that you have access to special equipment and enjoy better prof:student ratios Demo of alternate schedule At Algonquin: labs start on day 1 - unless specifically informed otherwise classes start right on the hour (not 5 mins after the hour) At Carleton, labs do not usually start until the 2nd or 3rd week… verify with each course instructor

Where do I get my student cards?
Carleton student card: 407 University Centre Can be used almost everywhere on campus Algonquin student card: Get proof of BIT student status from Algonquin’s Registrar’s Office Take that and your Carleton student ID card to room C044 to obtain an Algonquin student ID card Allows you to enjoy facilities at both campuses…

Do I get my Cisco certification after my 4 years?
No; at your option, you can write the official Cisco Certification exams. Best practice: Write your certification exam as soon as you can, while the details are still fresh in your memory. Write your CCNA ( ) after 2nd year Or, ICND1 ( ) after 1st year (CCENT), then, ICND2 ( ) after 2nd year Write each CCNP test (ROUTE, SWITCH, TSHOOT) shortly after completing the corresponding NET course in 3rd and 4th year.

What kind of laptop do I need?
No specific needs, but … lots of RAM (16GB) & SSD are recommended In-Lab PCs are available at both campuses Most students elect to use their own laptop during the lectures and labs. Mac and PC

What should I bring to my first lectures?
Your rapt attention! ;) Pen and paper to take notes Or your tablet, laptop, etc, if you’re that proficient! During the first lecture, the instructor will go through the course outline and explain what is required for success in the course.

What textbooks do I need to buy?
Will be mentioned during the first lecture and also written in the course outline. Algonquin Bookstore expand “COMP” & scroll to NET courses Carleton Bookstore

Where do I go on my 1st day at Algonquin?

Final words of wisdom… Do your best not to get behind.
Failing some courses can delay your graduation by a full year! This is particularly expen$ive for international students!! Ask for help when needed – don't wait until the end of the course. Get involved in various associations, sport teams, campus life, BIT society, etc.
