1 THE SYSTEM OF EDUCATION in Poland

2 According to the Polish Constitution every citizen of our country has the right to get the education. All the state schools are free of charge. The primary schools and lower secondary schools (gymnasiums) are compulsory.

3 Children must study between the ages 7-18.
If a child doesn’t go to school, their parents (or someone who keeps the legal custody of the child) bear responsibility and they have to pay a fine.

4 Polish Education System is based on three stages:
PRIMARY SECONDARY HIGHER EDUCATION

5 The school year (ten months) is divided into two terms.
One lesson lasts 45 minutes. The breaks between the lessons can last 5, 10, 15 or 20 minutes.

6 In the first three years of primary school pupils don’t get grades.
Their parents receive a descriptive assessment of their knowledge and skills.

7 Students get standard school marks from the fourth class till the very end of their education.
These are: 6 – excellent/ outstanding 5 – very good 4 – good 3 – sufficient/ satisfactory 2 – unsatisfactory 1 – inadequate/ failed

There are also marks for students’ behaviour: PERFECT VERY GOOD GOOD AVERAGE IMPROPER VERY BAD

9 Primary school is for children aged 7 – 12

10 It is divided into two stages
It is divided into two stages. For the first three years they are taught by one teacher. They learn how to read and write. They also have English, Religious Education and Physical Education.

11 After three years, they are taught by a number of teachers who teach them Polish, History, Science, Maths, Art, Music, Craft and Design.

12 Lower Secondary School

13 For students between 13 – 15 years old
To graduate from this kind of school students have to take three examinations: 1. Polish and History 2. Science and Maths 3. Foreign language The results of the exams are very important for students if they want to get to a particular type of High School.

14 FOUR-YEAR TECHNICAL HIGH SCHOOL
HIGH SCHOOLS VOCATIONAL SCHOOLS 2-3 years - finishing with the exam. Students get a certificate confirming their profession GENERAL HIGH SCHOOLS finishing with Matura Exam confirming general education, it allows them to go to university FOUR-YEAR TECHNICAL HIGH SCHOOL finishing with Matura Exam plus a certificate confirming students’ profession

15 After High School students can take Higher Education

16 There are various types of higher education in Poland:
UNIVERSITIES POLYTECHNICS ECONOMIC ACADEMIES AGRICULTURAL ACADEMIES OTHERS Day studies’ in State Higher Schools are free of charge

17 No matter what schools and universities young people graduate from, they are still needed and contribute a lot to the whole nation.
