1 Theorertical and Experimental Probability
By: Matthew B.

2 Theoretical Probability
-Theoretical probability is what should happen in theory. For example, if you have a numbered spinner 1-10, and you want to find the theoretical probability of it landing on an even number, you would find all the even numbers out of 10. Those numbers would be 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10. Or 5/10 (1/2). To find the percentage divide the numerator (5) by the denomanator (10) and you will get 0.5 or 50%. That is how you figure out theoretical probability.

3 Experimental Probability
-Experimental probability is finding a probability with data you have collected. For example, Lil' Timmy wants to know the experimental probability for the percentage of the number of times he's rolled a 3 on a standard number cube. He has recorded his data thus far on his chart. To figure out the percentage of the number of times he's rolled a 3, divide the number of times he rolled a 3 (8) by the total number of times he rolled the cube (40). The answer you will get is 0.2 or 20%. That is how you find experimental probability.

4 Comparison -Alright, so you know what experimental probability is and what theoretical probability is, but you haven't learned the comparison between the two. (At least from my presentation). So without further ado, this is my comparison. You may or may not have known (or noticed) that experimental and theoretical probability can be calculated the same way. All you have to do is divide the numerator (the number of ways a probability can happen) by the denomanator (the total number of outcomes).

5 Question #1 - Now you will take a quiz to see if you learned from my presentation. If you collect no data, but want to know the probability of a spinner landing on 4, would that be experimental or theoretical? THEORETICAL EXPERIMENTAL

6 CORRECT!!!!!!!! GOOD JOB, YOU GOT IT RIGHT!!! NEXT QUESTION

7 INCORRECT. WAH WAH WAH WAAAAAAAAHHH Sorry try again?

8 Question #2 -Lil' Timmy needs your help again. Even though we know how to figure it out, Lil' Timmy doesn't. (I forgot to tell him how to do it). He knows how many times he rolled a 3, and how many total times he rolled the cube, but doesn't know how to find the percentage. He has a couple ideas of how to, but isn't quite sure. Which option is correct? A) 8* B) 40/ C) 8/ D) 40+8

9 INCORRECT. Better luck next time. Try again?

10 CORRECT!!!!!!! Great job! Don't worry I'll tell Lil' Timmy this time.
Next Question

11 Question #3 Alright, this is the final question to my short quiz. In the last question, what kind of problem did we help Lil' Timmy with? A) Experimental Probability B) Theoretical Probability C) Eleventy-eight and a half. D) Compound Probability

12 CORRECT!!!!!! CONNNNGRAAAATUULAAATIOONNNSSS! You've completed my quiz!
END

13 INCORRECT. Wrong answer. Try again?

14 Really? Why, just why? Please try again.

15 This is the end! I hope you enjoyed my presentation/quiz!
