14 Inmarsat C Communication
Inmarsat C data reporting mode: Australia VOS In co-operation with the Australian Met Bureau The message reported is a binary subset of the full ship message. The data is sent via Inmarsat C using the data reporting mode, which reduces the running costs. The data is sent to the Bureau via the Perth Land Earth Station. The data is decoded within the Bureau and is then placed on the GTS as a full Ship message. Inmarsat-C data reporting mode Short messages, only 32 byte packets Cheap to operate, price depends on operator Due to short messages binary formatting needed Receiving station must be tailored for the binary protocol In use in Australia:n Met Bureau VOS application Application built in co-operation with Vaisala Melbourne BBXX VLST /// / BBXX VLST /// /

Infrared sea surface temperature measurement In future ? CO2 measurements can be needed Will be available when suitable sensor is available IR sea surface temperature measurement ? Might be one possibility to measure the surface temperature straight from the same mast. No timetable available, under investigations at the moment.
