1 Using the RDF to Plan and Evidence your Skills
GW4 BioMed MRC DTP Webinar Using the RDF to Plan and Evidence your Skills

2 PDP cycle Evidence Review progress Reflection Identify needs
This workshop will hopefully help you to be more proactive in your PDP and achieve more as a result. Gathering evidence of learning experiences and achievement Reflecting on learning experiences and achievement Identifying new learning needs and creating development plans Reviewing progress towards the achievement of goals set You will notice that the PDP cycle is strikingly similar to Kolbs’s learning circle

3 Researchers The Researcher development framework (RDF) is a comprehensive approach to enhancing the careers of researchers. It has been developed from first principles through interviews with successful researchers in a range of disciplines. It aims to: *provide a framework of the skills, attributes and behaviours of successful researchers *provide a tool for self-assessment of strengths and areas for further development *provide a common framework across institutions in the UK. 4 domans 12 subdomains 63 descriptors Up to 5 phases of development for each descriptor. Need to consider all of these areas – BUT they may not all be relevant to you or at a specific point in time. Careers like people, move on.

5 Demo of domains on RDF You are working to achieve PHASE1 in all domains PLAN your development You may already be at or beyond Phase 1 in some aspects, depending on your experience EVIDENCE your skills NB – By the END of the PhD

6 Sources of training GW4Biomed online modules (available from Jan – TBC) Local courses in all HEIs eg Word for Long Docs, Excel Other courses (in some HEIs) Reports etc presented to/feedback from your supervisor (often also required for local supervision) Activities at Congress/Theme events Other activities e.g. attending external meetings

8 Demo of generating reports

9 Reports to Submit Actions Report (Development Needs Action Plan)
Completed Actions with Evidence Action Plan DISCUSSION OF WHICH REPORTS WE WILL NEED AND WHEN – show how to get them online

10 Deadlines Feb 1st 2017 Actions planned (send “Actions Report”)
Enter plan for all domains Forward report to us July 1st 2017 Most training completed (send “Completed Actions with Evidence”) Forward report of progress towards Core Training – expect > 50% of elements completed (to be defined) Oct 31st 2017 All core training completed (Action Plan) Forward report to confirm completion of Core Training NB copy all reports to all your supervisors
