Consistent High Expectations equals Student Success Purpose of Session: To share best practices that have yielded: an increased graduation rate for our students; high academic achievement rates for the total school Post Secondary Education Readiness for all graduates Participants will leave this session with various best practices that can be implemented at your schools as a means for providing a quality college preparatory education for underrepresented students.

Rigor Pre AP Curriculum starting in 6th grade (Ex. Springboard)
High School courses offered in middle school. SAT/ACT Preparation class, mandatory for all juniors. Embedded College Instruction in the Curriculum. On & Off Campus Dual Enrollment (during the school year , we are offering 15 On-Campus Dual Enrollment courses). 157 students are taking classes Off-Campus at MDC. 26 AP courses PSAT is administered to all 8th, 9th and 10th graders. Despite the fact that the PSAT is voluntary for 11th graders, in October of 2016, 98% of our juniors took the NMSQT/PSAT. AP Potential used to drive student placement. Done

Simulated College Application/Essay/ as11th grade assignment reviewed by principal No senior left behind campaign ( 4 times a year) College Decision Day event Alumni Network Career Research Class in the 8th grade Ongoing guidance presentations (4 times a year) Group and individualized guidance counseling Push and pull philosophy Regardless of entry achievement rate, students are given the opportunity Academy Model Performing Arts Curricular autonomy Blended virtual courses Opportunities for all students to advance Electives that lead to Industrial Certification Done

Relevance Excellent Teacher-Student relationships.
“Educationally”-Nurturing environment Excellent Teacher-Student relationships. Before and After School targeted-tutoring. Mandatory 8th period enrichment class for levels 1 and 2 in FSA Reading, Math, or the Algebra I EOC. A group of 11th graders are students’ helpers during this period. Saturday tutoring enrichment for FSA, EOC and Advanced Placement Vertical and horizontal curriculum alignment Identification of Bubble students Complete Administrative Involvement Visibility/Availability Walk-throughs (Administrative, Springboard and Reading Coach Form) Open door policy Done

Relationships Students view school as a “Home away from Home”
Open daily from 7am – 10pm Complete Athletic Program Creative activities for everyone (e.g. dance, band, drama, photography, art, etc.) Service Clubs (SGA, Key Club, SECME, FBLA, Honor Societies ) 21st Century After School program in partnership with Saint Thomas University (Thespian, Chorus, Lion Territory & Jazz Band) Parental Partnerships Parental involvement contracts Parent volunteer hours Untraditional methods to earn parent volunteer hours Attending events, “working” at school, fieldtrips when needed, etc. Quarterly Parent-Teacher conferences Done
