26 Celebrating Our Forefathers of Faith Heb. 11:1,2
DEVOTIONAL Celebrating Our Forefathers of Faith Heb. 11:1,2

27 Hebrews 11:1,2 “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. For by it the people of old received their commendation.” We as believers are called by God to walk in this world “by faith” which means we must not set all of our trust in our circumstances, or in all that we see in front of us, and certainly not only our emotions. To honor God we walk in the faith that He cares for us.

28 Our example of our forefather’s in the scriptures and in history (like the Pilgrims) are something to celebrate and encourage us on our journey through life. The Pilgrims felt they were being led of God, though they did not see the place they were headed. They had to trust in God who, being a God of love, wanted always the best for them, and He could see the land ahead.

29 Here is a true story to illustrate Faith in the One who can see.
During the terrible days of the Blitz, a father, holding his small son by the hand, ran from a building that had been struck by a bomb. In the front yard was a shell hole. Seeking shelter as quickly as possible, the father jumped into the hole and held up his arms for his son to follow. Terrified, yet hearing his father's voice telling him to jump, the boy replied, "I can't see you!"

30 The father, looking up against the sky tinted red by the burning buildings, called to the silhouette of his son, "But I can see you. Jump!" The boy jumped, because he trusted his father. The Christian faith enables us to face life or meet death, not because we can see, but with the certainty that we are seen; not that we know all the answers, but that we are known.

31 SONG: Faith of our Fathers
Faith of our fathers, living still, In spite of dungeon, fire, and sword; Oh, how our hearts beat high with joy Whene’er we hear that glorious Word! VERSE #2 Faith of our fathers, we will strive To win all nations unto thee; And through the truth that comes from God, We all shall then be truly free. VERSE #3 Faith of our fathers, we will love Both friend and foe in all our strife; And preach thee, too, as love knows how By kindly words and virtuous life. CHORUS Faith of our fathers, holy faith! We will be true to thee till death.
