OVERVIEW: None of us would dream of going flying without first performing a thorough preflight inspection of the aircraft. Why should checking the condition of the pilot be any different? In this FAA Safety Team WINGS seminar, I will share examples from decades of my own personal safety deviations. While reviewing a popular acronym, I will explain how it can help us to ensure that the PIC is just as airworthy as the machinery. Presentation Copyright © 2017

OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this Seminar, you will:
Understand the importance of performing a preflight inspection Explain why this applies to the pilot just as it does to the aircraft Recite and decode the I’M SAFE acronym Analyze yourself critically on every point Be brutally honest with yourself Prepare to cancel the flight if you don’t measure up Break the accident chain at the earliest possible link Be able to say: I’M SAFE! External pressure to fly has led to far too many accidents.
Ask yourself: on a scale of 1 to 10, how important is it to make this flight? If the answer is 5 or above, don’t fly! Presentation Copyright © 2017
