5 About the Maynard taskforce
Taskforce aims and objectives: Reach an understanding of the issues and barriers that affect people with learning disabilities in accessing and completing an apprenticeship. Identify solutions that could help overcome these barriers and raise participation levels. Make recommendations to both Ministers on which options to pursue. Series of recommendations made which have all be accepted by the Government. 5

All guidance including the NIACE toolkit should be reviewed to ensure they are up to date and fit for purpose ( BIS and DWP to investigate and raise awareness of the range of non-traditional recruitment practices for apprenticeship applicants with LDD (including working interviews, job carving roles, electronic portfolios and other digital options). L&W commissioned to explore approaches used with employers, learning providers and potential apprentices. Findings will be used to raise awareness of good practice approaches, including practical guidance on how approaches can be implemented. 6

Learning Disability Work Experience Week provides positive, inclusive and meaningful work placements for people with a learning disability and improve their chances of finding paid work in the future. Year 1: 8 placements Year 2: 30 Placements Year 3: Over 100 placements Year 4: Over 200 placements 10

12 Preparing for Adulthood
Commissioned by DfE to support the testing and implementation of SEND reforms. Working with Further Education providers to develop their supported internship study programme. One of the internships has developed into an apprenticeship. 12

13 Sixteen Social enterprise supporting people with a Learning Disability to find employment. Provide job coaching support for 3 supported internship programmes. Offer community based support for older people and those in work and at risk of losing their job. Have supported clients to progress into apprenticeships. 13
