2. Welcome to Portable 2 Thanks so much for coming!
Please look through the curriculum packet on your child’s desk (Blue folder).
Review the emergency forms. Please fill out and sign the bottom.
Read your child’s letter. Write back if you have time.
Choose a bookmark and decorate it for your student. Write a little note on the back. I will laminate them so we can use them at school.

3. Who is Mrs. Hannley? 12th year of teaching (2nd and 3rd grade)
Mother of two…one at IHS the other at Eastside Catholic
Grew up on the West Coast, and have lived in Issaquah for 18 years
Western Oregon University -BA in Psychology and Health
Linfield College -Teaching Certificate
City University -Masters Degree in Education
LOVES TEACHING 2ND GRADERS!!!!!!!!

4. Attendance
Be on time
Let the office and me know if your child has appointments that interfere with school
Please make going home arrangements prior to coming to school (it is very difficult to arrange last minute changes during dismissal)
Keep you child home if he/she is ill
Make-up work will be provided upon your child’s return.
There is a new attendance letter that OSPI is asking us to share with parents. Dolores sent it out electronically asking the parents to read it at home. Please initial that they have read it on a class roster sheet.

5. My Philosophy
I believe in providing a fun, safe, structured, and nurturing learning environment. My hope is that we will all learn everyday.
The students help me run the classroom and help make decisions on classroom procedures. I consider this “our” classroom.

6. Class Expectations Be kind and respectful to others
Respect school and classmate’s property
Be quiet and listen carefully when the teacher or another classmate is speaking during a class discussion
Follow all Creekside rules during lunch and recess
Help other Otters behave properly at all times
Everyone makes mistakes – own up and be honest, apologize and try again…start over!
We are all here to help each other stay safe, learn, and have fun!

7. Positive Behavior Social Emotional Support (PBSES)
“The Otter Way” –
Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe, Be Kind
Students are taught what this looks like in different areas of the school – classrooms, hallways, Otter Café, Playground, busses…
There are posters around the school to remind students what is expected.
Creekside Coins – Students earn these for demonstrating the expectations and get recognized as a class when they reach certain landmarks.
Social Emotional Learning– We’re using the Second Step Curriculum to teach these critical skills. These lessons are taught by the counselor and teachers.

12. Eureka Math – A Story of Units
A comprehensive curriculum written by a team of teachers and mathematicians who took great care to present mathematics in a logical progression, preparing students to understand advanced math
Developed specifically to meet the math standards adopted by our state
Connects math to the real world in ways that take the fear out of math and build student confidence
Teaches math as a “story” to build students’ mathematical knowledge logically and help them achieve deep understanding
This approach can be unfamiliar to those of us who grew up memorizing mathematical facts and formulas
