LESSON 661: HOLINESS WITH HOSPITALITY
MEMORY VERSE: “Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently” – 1 Peter 1:22 TEXT: LUKE 10:30-37

SUMMARY (1) Our last study focused on Paul’s sufferings and faithfulness in ministry: God’s presence and power enable the gospel ministry and ministers. Wrongdoing in ministers or members hinder the gospel; godly living supports it. Challenges are part of our calling: we must persevere in them. Members and ministers should relate freely with an open heart. Members should care for their ministers in prayer, giving and obedience. The study of today touches on four points: True Christianity and the atmosphere of love. The condemnable attributes of the priest and the Levite. The commendable attitude of the Samaritan. The convincing application by the Lord.

SUMMARY (2) True Christianity and the atmosphere of love (Luke 10:37; Rom. 13:8-10): Every human needy person deserves our help; we must respond in love. We should especially care for believers in the household of faith – the Church. The condemnable attributes of the priest and the Levite (Luke 10:31,32): Workers and leaders should show example in care; that is their calling! We should not let ‘ministerial duty’ stop our caring: care is our core duty! The commendable attitude of the Samaritan(Luke 10:33-35; I John 3:16): Beyond what people call us, our actions will show what or who we really are. We should not give excuses but heal the wounded by our words and actions. The convincing application by the Lord (Luke 10:36,37; Gal. 6:2,10): The true neighbour is one who helps the needy: Evangelise and care! Holiness and hospitality must go together: “Go and do likewise”.

CONCLUSION Believers should care for all, especially care for believers in the household of faith. We cannot shun care because of duty: care is our duty! Our care must be balanced: we feed the spiritually hungry with the Word of life and care for the physically needy. The Samaritan was moved with compassion: love is active. If we won’t see the Lord without holiness, we will not even get near the pearly gate without hospitality.
