1 WORLDVIEW DEFINITION A person’s worldview is their personal understanding of why our world exists and how people should live here – the way that individuals see the world and think about their purpose for being here.

2 THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF WORLDVIEW SHOWN BELOW CONTRAST THREE GENERAL WAYS OF THINKING. THERE ARE A VARIETY OF ADAPTATIONS AND COMBINATIONS OF THESE GENERAL UNDERSTANDINGS OF THE WORLD.   Individualistic Humanistic Religious ME ME GOD + + Others Me + Others Unlimited Freedom = Limited Freedom = Limited Freedom ex: ANARCHY ex: DEMOCRACY ex: THEOCRACY (Nobody rules) (Majority rules) (God rules)

3 Make a list of how you want to spend your time in your senior year before graduating What Matters To YOU? Now make a list of how you actually spent your time on average over the last week. Did any item overlap from these two lists? How well do your commitments actually match your goals?

How might you deal with a situation where your core values come into conflict with one another? Can you think of an example?

6 A course about Ethics & Religious Cultures acknowledges that individuals choose how to understand the world – and that each type of choice has consequences effecting how we treat ourselves and others. Since we live in the same world together, it is crucial that we understand different worldviews and become aware of how our choices and attitudes(ETHICS) affect the way we all live.

Journal Entry #1 List some of the things that are most important to you. (Values) Pick one of the values you mentioned above and explain why it is so important to you. Discuss where this value might have come from or developed. (Reference) What could happen in the future to make you question this value? What question would you ask yourself to help you come to a decision (Ethical Question)?
