RTD Board of Directors Briefing on Web and Document Accessibility January 15, 2012

Our Goal Consistent with the Americans with Disabilities Act, insure RTD’s website content is accessible to people with disabilities using a variety of assistive technologies. Incorporate accessibility standards for persons with disabilities including guidelines from the Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) and Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act. Provide the best transit experience to each and every rider, and continue to takes steps to improve our websites. Continue to provide reasonable accessibility accommodations to RTD websites and documents in accordance with applicable laws.

Progress to Date June - Began planning efforts to provide reasonable accessibility accommodations to RTD websites and public documents in accordance with applicable laws. August – Completed scope of work for an experienced and qualified vendor to provide an assessment and audit to evaluate how accessible our websites and public documents are for people with a variety of disabilities. Vendor will also provide training. October – Web and Document Accessibility Assessment RFP Released Scope Includes: rtd-denver.com (including careers site) rtd-fastracks.com MinuteTraq Board Paperless System RTD mobile site – m.rtd-denver.com Smartcard web site December: Awarded RFP to web and document accessibility vendor Created document accessibility 101 training course Published document authoring reference training materials on the hub intranet Completed draft electronic content accessibility policy using Austin Capital Metro’s current policy as a starting point

Near Term Accessibility Action Plan
Outsource any necessary document remediation in the short term. Train 50 key staff on document accessibility authoring. January 2013. Purchase, install and train a few RTD staff on various assistive technologies. January 2013. Finalize RTD electronic content accessibility policy and standards. Sometime after web and document accessibility assessment vendor final recommendation. March 2013. Setup an assistive technology kiosk computer in the Board Room for public participants. January 2013.

Long Term Accessibility Action Plan
Develop and deliver training for all employees on how to author accessible documents in Microsoft Office April 2013 through October 2013. Remediate any web pages or web site content based on our accessibility vendor’s recommendations. April 2013 through October 2013. Continue efforts to make all RTD websites compliant with RTD’s electronic content accessibility policy and standards. Ongoing.
