What promotional activities did we do in year 2 to make the project accessible? What did we learn? How is that changing our approach in year 2? Improving skills for you, your community, your business

3 Year 1 Initial Promotion Actions
Produced generic leaflet Two pages on Skills & Learning site Generic project information Information about the project partners 1 page listing all courses Improving skills for you, your community, your business

4 Early Learning in year 1 Enthusiasm for starting the project produced marketing material Feedback was that the wording was not suitable We had forgotten to keep everything in plain English. Improving skills for you, your community, your business

5 Plain English Keep sentences short – sentence length 15 to 20 words
Prefer active words Use 'you' and 'we' – imagine you are talking to the reader Use words that are appropriate for the reader Be concise: Don't be afraid to give instructions, use lists where appropriate Avoid nominalisations Improving skills for you, your community, your business

6 NHS Accessible information
Use a minimum font size of 12 point, preferably 14 (which is readable by a significantly greater number of people) Use a clear uncluttered and sans serif font such as Arial Align text the left margin and avoid justifying text Ensure plenty of 'white space' on documents, especially between sections. Avoid 'squashing' text onto a page and, if possible, include a double space between paragraphs Print on matt and not gloss paper Improving skills for you, your community, your business

11 Tis the season to be.... Findings, released by Mind, show that 36% of people with mental health problems have self-harmed to cope with the pressure of Christmas. Mind's survey, of 110 supporters, found that 52% have considered harming themselves at Christmas, while 45% have considered taking their own life. 16 Operational approach Something was wrong!
Started with online filling in of interest form Call from one of team to arrange interview and course Pressure of enquiries led to replacement of callback with self booking system This resulted in many bookings which were not attended Something was wrong!
