3 What is the GASCSIG? Sustainability Citizenship
Our Aims SCSIG furthers the aims of the GA with regard to the teaching of sustainability and citizenship education through geography. It explores ideas for geography's contribution towards creating and adopting more sustainable lifestyles and active participation in communities. What we do The group of teachers, lecturers, researchers and consultants holds three meetings a year and communicates online. Information and ideas are exchanged with different networks and through the geography community. Want to join the group?

5 So why cake sales anyway?
Various discussions at GASCSIG meetings about:- The role of Geography in the curriculum The importance of global citizenship and how teachers may support young people as future citizens Post-workshop discussion from last conference (Manchester) on ‘can geography teaching save the world’ Our day-to-day experiences as practitioners We use Cake sales as a ‘catch-all’ term for all charity work in schools. It is the most common and one of most productive in terms of profit:effort. It must be widely assumed charity efforts and global issues raising are uniformly good things but are they? Hence… Do cake sales work?
