3 HOW GOOD ARE YOU?

4 Fractions are parts of a whole!

5 When adding and subtracting fractions the denominators MUST be the same.
Make sure your denominators are the same by finding the LCM. Whatever you do to the bottom you must do to the top. Add/subtract the numerators. Simplify if possible

6 Remember: whatever you do to the bottom, you must do to the top!

7 A direct or incline at an angle.
Angles The space (usually measured in degrees) between two intersecting lines or surfaces at or close to the point where they meet. A direct or incline at an angle.

8 Adding and Subtracting Decimals
 Find the decimal Line up decimals Fill in empty spots with zeros Add or Subtract It’s that easy!!!!!!!

9 Work these out on your whiteboards:
= =

10 ANSWERS: = 30.8 = 40.41

11 Multiplying Decimals  Work out how many numbers behind the decimal point in the question Ignore the decimal Multiply like normal Put the decimal back where it belongs (where the decimal is in the questions it needs to be the same for the answer

12 Work this out on your whiteboards:
6.4 x 4.5 = Or 8.7 x 6.2 =

13 ANSWERS: 6.4 x 4.5 = 28.8 Or 8.7 x 6.2 = 53.94

14 How do I Remember BODMAS?
B Brackets first O Orders (i.e. Powers and Square Roots, etc.) DM Division and Multiplication (left-to-right) AS Addition and Subtraction (left-to-right)

15 Show the order on your whiteboards
In which order? x (8 ÷ 2 - 4)= ÷ 3 x 2 = Show the order on your whiteboards

16 answers? 4 3 11 2 x (8 ÷ 2 - 4)= ÷ 3 x 2 = 3 1 2

17 What is probability? How likely is something going to happen?
What are the chances of an event happening?

18 Mathematical Vocabulary
IMPOSSIBLE (It will never happen!!) UNLIKELY (It may happen but probably won’t) EQUALLY LIKELY (you have an equal chance of it happening) LIKELY (It may happen and probably will) CERTAIN (It will definitely happen)

19 How likely are these events to happen?
You will go out to dinner on the weekend. You will drink something today. You will see a dolphin on your way home.

20 = Calculating Theoretical Probabilities
The number of results you want The number of possible results The probability of an event happening =

21 If I roll 2 dice, what is the theoretical probability of rolling a 4?
Show these on your whiteboards: If I roll 2 dice, what is the theoretical probability of rolling a 4? In the class there are 17 boys and 13 girls. What is the theoretical probability of me picking a boy to be the leader?

22 If I roll 2 dice, what is the theoretical probability of rolling a 4?
ANSWERS: If I roll 2 dice, what is the theoretical probability of rolling a 4? ANSWER: Fraction: 2/12 Decimal: 0.3 Percentage: 30% In the class there are 17 boys and 13 girls. What is the theoretical probability of me picking a boy to be the leader? ANSWER: Fraction: 17/30 Decimal: 0.56 Percentage: 56%
