4 Myths Realities AP/IB classes are for students who always get good grades These courses are for all students who are academically prepared and motivated to take college-level courses. AP/IB classes are too stressful They are challenging but manageable, especially with the support you receive from your teachers and classmates. Consider the number of rigorous classes students are taking in a semester/year. It’s important to plan a schedule that is academically Taking an AP/IB course could hurt my GPA Both programs are fully weighted and provide engaging learning experiences. They also show colleges you’re willing to challenge yourself academically. I don’t think I will get a high enough score on the exam to get college credit Most colleges, including Indiana schools, recognize an AP score of 3 (out of 5) or higher or a 5 (out of 7) or higher on an IB exam. State colleges in Indiana have to award credit to students who scored a 3 or higher on an AP exam. I can’t take AP/IB because I was not recommended A recommendation does not prevent you from taking an AP/IB course. If you feel like you are ready for the level of rigor and challenge these courses require, you can sign up for a class. However, most of these courses require a year long commitment so be sure you understand the demands before you sign up.
