2. Huntsville City Schools Offered a Variety of Summer Camps to Students for Credit Recovery, Enhancement, Enrichment, Acceleration, and Career Readiness
Summer School
Offered both credit remediation and credit enhancement for HCS students.
Students who fall behind during the school year can make-up credits during the summer in order to stay with their graduation cohort. This supports our graduation rate.
Credit enhancement is offered for Drivers Education, Health, and Career Prep courses. Students who take these courses during the summer will create more space in their schedule to take accelerated core academic courses.
Honors Camp
Supports first time honors students by frontloading and reinforcing essential skills needed for honors courses.
Begins students on the accelerated path with honors and Advanced Placement courses.
Offers exposure to career readiness courses.

6. Honors Camp was Held June 6 to 9 at Lee High School to Frontload and Reinforce Skills for First Time Honors Students
Students who attended:
Will be first time honors students this school year
Were rising seventh and ninth graders
Attended Chapman P8, McNair Junior High, Westlawn Middle, Dawson P6, Lakewood P6, and Highlands P6
Had a choice of math or science courses
A total of 44 students attended the camp.
Transportation was provided from the student’s home school to Lee High School.
Students were served breakfast and lunch.
Greenpower was integrated into the classes daily.
Honors Camp was held in conjunction with the Teacher Academy which focused on strategic teaching and differentiated instruction.
Program expansion is being considered for summer 2017 with a focus on correlating honors courses and Advanced Manufacturing.

7. This Summer 450 Students Participated in Robotics Camp Provided by HCS to Increase Student Interest in Math, Science, and Engineering
Robotics Camp was held in partnership with National Society of Black Engineers, North Alabama Professionals for the fifth consecutive year.
Robotics camp was available to rising 5th through 8th grade Huntsville City Schools’ students at no cost.
Camps were held at three sites this year: Columbia, New Century, and Grissom.
During the fast- paced week, teams of students designed and built a robot using the engineering design process.
All teams participated in a competition at the end of the week.
These camps encouraged students to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) related fields.
During summer 2017, these camps will be held June 5th - 9th at Columbia, Jemison, and New Century High Schools.

8. HCS Hosted a Cyber Camp this Summer with 75 Student Participants to Increase Awareness and Participation in the Cyber Security Academy
Cyber camp was held for the second year in partnership with Cyber Huntsville at New Century High School. This year’s camp was from June 13th - 17th.
Camp participants took part in various activities which allowed them to learn skills which will help them be successful in cyber security fields.
Cyber competitions were held during the week of camp.
Industry leaders were invited to speak as guest speakers.
The camp brought student awareness to careers in cyber security.
New Century High School will host the third annual Cyber Camp from June , 2017.
