These need to be answered on a sheet of paper that you will turn in with your maps: These need to be answered in complete sentences: What physical features might have caused the majority of settlers to remain on or close to the Atlantic Coast? How might the land and climate of southern colonies have helped agriculture to become a main economic activity in this region? Why was farming not a main economic activity in the Northeast? What possible benefits might the Mississippi River provide to settlers?

This is a partner race! After each round, a teacher must check and sign your map before you can move on. Before you are allowed to proceed, your physical and political features must be labeled accurately AND neatly There will be a prize for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place Your completed maps are also your FIRST DAILY GRADES

11 Things to Remember… READ THE INSTRUCTIONS for each round! They are different each time. Use your neatest handwriting. Make sure you are labeling the entire river. Make sure you are labeling the entire mountain range. You DO NOT have to color in the water. Just write over the labels in blue. Use the ^^^ symbol for mountains.

Think about the land and climate of the North. Why was farming not as successful in the Northeast as it was in the South? What possible benefits might the Mississippi River provide to settlers?
