Data manager’s core duties
Database design and application. Software installation and testing. Data security. Disaster recovery solutions are necessary. Microsoft Sequel Server Database application management GeoPlan Kronos Abila MuniciBill Alert DDM System GPS data development

Examples of data management absence
Our recent stormwater management (SPF) experience with variable property information, resulted in customer service deficiencies. This was because our database was not up to date. Each of our records management systems, (GeoPlan, Visual Alert, Abila) have a separate SQL database which must be independently managed – often resulting in different information for the same data point.

Part of the information technology team
Our proposed “Data Manager” would manage all elements of our organization’s data for all departments, bringing everything under one silo. This will lead to consistent data across all of our departments. Mapping our infrastructure with GPS technology and integrating the data into our collective database solution(s). The Data Manager would be available to write reports and create maps for our departments as needed.

Part of the information technology team
“Level 1” service requests from our staff. The Information Technology as a collective team would also begin to work together – with the data manager in respect to the management of our data. The general staff will no longer need to enter & manage collected data – freeing up time for their core duties as the data manager assumes this responsibility. The data manager will be responsible for managing data sharing.
7
The cost of adding a data manager in 2018
$45,000-$55,000 / annual – including benefits.
8
Quick view of the benefits of a data manager
The coordination of our data – reducing errors. The creation of useful reports & maps for all departments & stakeholders. Building an infrastructure database using GPS technology. Expanding the services of our information technology staff. Improving the reliability of our organization’s data. Managing effective policy for the use of our organization’s data.
