1 After School Education & Safety (ASES) Program Vision

2 Making A Difference One Afternoon At A Time
The Mission of the After School Education and Safety Program is to provide a safe after school education, enrichment, and youth development program for first through eighth grade students in the Bakersfield City School District. This mission supports the District’s Value, Vision and Mission Statement, “The BCSD ensures a collaborative and learning community where all students are inspired to achieve academic excellence and become life-long learners and productive citizens.”

3 Bakersfield City School District Background Information of ASES
There are currently 32 elementary and 7 middle schools in the ASES Program. 5,100 students are enrolled in ASES grades first through eighth grade. This is an increase of 1,400 students from Average daily attendance is 92% with our current goal to reach 95%. Every student in after school receives a daily snack which meets the U.S.D.A. snack regulations.

5 Goal #1: Academic Achievement
Homework and Academic Support-Every child receives 30 minutes daily in i-Ready in Math and English Language Arts Targeted Instruction of Needed Skills through aligned Ready Common Core tutoring 2 hours, 2 times a week provided by credentialed teachers. Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math, (STEAM) Collaboration Among Teachers, Principals After-School Leaders and Coaches in a Professional Learning Community(PLC) Accelerated Reader and E-Readers

6 Goal #2: Social and Emotional Learning
Character Education-Auto Be Good Videos-Lessons Community Partnerships- Ebony Counseling, Stay Focused, Kern County Probation Dept., Reaching Our Goals, All Amercian Classic, Children First Campaign, Youth Leadership Clubs Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) Wellness Plan Safety Education

Gardening/Nutrition Dance/Sports/Chess Bakersfield Museum of Art Drama Guitar Sewing/ Community Projects Hollywood Video Camp Science/Forensics/CSI/Space and Solar Clubs College and Career Class

9 2017-2018 LCAP Outcomes Actions Four additional school were added:
Maintain capacity for the After School Program by hiring two additional Academic Liaisons for 2 hours per week to provide targeted direct instruction and by adding four new schools and an additional 1950 students across thirty-nine school sites prioritized by socioeconomic status and school size. Four additional school were added: Fletcher, Curran, Compton and Stiern 75 Credentialed Teachers have provided tutoring after school for 3,600 students for 2 hours a week, 2 times a week on defined skills in Ready Common Core. Teachers have been provided specific professional development by Curriculum Associates for ASES. 1,400 students have been enrolled additionally to add an increase of attendance from 3,700 students in to 5,100 students in 2015- 2016.
