1 Elements and The Periodic Table
Year 1 Sciences

2 Pre-Note Activity (KWL) K- write down what you already know about atoms and the periodic table W- during the videos, write down questions you may have (what you want to know) L- after the videos, write down what you have learned Study Jams: Protons, Neutrons, and Electrons (Review) Study Jams: The Periodic Table BrainPOP- The Periodic Table

3 Note Taking Expectations
notes must be written neatly letters should not be too BIG! write on each line, unless instructed to skip a line for another section have a puke page on standby: if you run out of room on the first page, then continue writing on the puke page (glue after the presentation!)

4 Atom: the smallest part of
(INB pg. 9) Atom: the smallest part of matter that still has the same properties of its element.

5 Element: substance made up of the same atoms combined
(INB pg. 9) Element: substance made up of the same atoms combined examples→ gold, helium, aluminum

6 Brain Break! Discuss with your group: What is the difference between atoms and elements?

7 (INB pg. 9) Periodic Table: table where elements are organized by increasing atomic number (# of protons).

8 (INB pg. 9) In the late 1800s, Dmitri Mendeleev devised the first periodic table based on atomic mass. In 1913, Henry G. J. Moseley arranged elements by atomic number and is what we use today.
