5. Support to Find Post-Secondary Pathways
Never believe that a post-secondary education is not an option for you!!
There are multiple post-secondary options available for students who do not have an OSSD (or who do not have marks/courses in order to apply to college and/or university). Most of these options are called access or outreach programs that offer Academic Completion and/or Transition Programs.
Eligibility criteria differ for each program (ie. 19 years or older, OSSD, etc). Many of the programs are FREE or offer financial aid support.

Requirements: ENG4U + five grade 12 U/M courses
program specific averages may or may not include prerequisite courses (top six 4U/4M courses)
co-op marks are not included in average
check university policy on repeated/upgraded courses

offers of admission based on semester one final and semester two mid-term marks
program may require supplementary application (essay, portfolio, audition, etc.)

Come to your appointment with your OUAC working copy (yellow sheet) to start and/or submit your on-line application
You do not have to submit (pay for) your application that day

Requirements:
ENG4C or 4U + grade 11/12 U/M/C courses
program specific courses will be stated (ie. degree programs will require ENG4U + 5 grade 12 U/M courses
Some programs will also require entrance testing and/or interview, etc.

for Highly Competitive Programs colleges will use grade 11 FINAL marks if you have not completed a required grade 12 course in first semester

27. Transfer Options
ONTransfer.ca is a service provided by the Ontario Council on Articulation and Transfer (ONCAT) to connect current and prospective students to transfer opportunities.
College to University:
Often the completion of a two-year diploma, with marks over 70%, will allow you to transfer into the second year of a comparable university program.
University to College:
Many students with either a degree or some university experience will apply for a diploma or graduate certificate to enhance their credentials.

28. Students with an IEP/IPRC
Universities or Colleges are not aware if you have an IEP/IPRC and received accommodations during secondary school.
If you would like to continue to access the supports you have received once you move to post-secondary studies, you must ‘self-identify’ with the appropriate people at the college or university you plan to study at. Your special education teacher or guidance counsellor can help you find that information or find it online at This should be done once you accept an offer – don’t wait until school starts in September.
