9 How to…. Log-in Upload document Enter School Information
Enter School Team Information Each school has 5 separate logins (superintendent, district leader, principal/process manager (shared between two people), NCDPI, and guest. Assess 12 Indicators Review how to ….. Username and password with editing rights – Principal/process manager have username and password with editing rights. Principals may choose to let goal team/objective chairs, assistant principals or lead teachers have access to their username and password. Whoever is responsible for a goal/objective, should also be responsible for entering the information in NC Star to build capacity and ownership of the goal/objective.

10 Logging - In You will log in to NC Star at and select the red login button Add this website to your computer’s bookmark for easy access to the site

11 Enter User Name and Password
Enter user name and password provided If you need technical support, the “contact us” button is available on the log in screen. Tech support responds in a timely manner You can also see a snapshot of how many leadership meetings, tasks completed and objective met for your school’s improvement plan. This page also included supporting videos and resources if schools need additional support

12 Dashboard After logging in, you are directed to your school’s dashboard page which includes: a document upload section (schools can upload supporting artifacts to this section) Student Success Indicators (gives you access to the assess, create and monitor cycle of your improvement plan)

13 Document Upload To upload a document, select document upload and upload a new file. Complete each field to successfully upload a file Schools can upload documents that: Support goal/objective level of implementation (professional development plans, master schedules, PBIS matrix, etc.) Supporting artifacts for actions steps (timelines, agendas, professional development plans, etc.) Data collection sheets, etc. (to include formative and summative assessment information) Comprehensive Needs Assessment Title I Schools are required to complete a CNA as part of the Title I 10 school wide components Upload your school’s CNA to the document upload section

14 Student Success Indicators
After selecting “student success indicators”, you will be directed to this page which includes access to assessing, creating and monitoring your improvement plan. This page also includes a snap shop of meetings held, number of tasks completed and objectives met. After assessing the 12 indicators and creating your improvement plan, your goal/objective teams should monitor their plan monthly with their team and report out to improvement team monthly. Anytime goal/objective teams meet to monitor monthly, include meeting notes/action steps, etc. in the monitor section. Make sure your school’s information is up to date in the school information section in the top right corner.

20 Assessing Indicators There are a total of 96 indicators in NC Star
We are required to assess 12 indicators in NC Star To list and assess 12 indicators, follow these steps: Under filter, select “key indicators only” Then, select the indicator to assess under “effective practice” Note, some indicators have multiple practices to assess within them

22 Assessing Indicators As improvement team assess indicators, use the “Guiding Questions for Team Discussions” document to identify what the indicator is, what should it look like, etc. This document also includes examples of narratives to include for full implementation and limited implementation. To assess indicators: Select level of implementation Priority score (is the indicator of high priority for your school? Or low priority?) Opportunity score (is the indicator easy to address? Or does it require policy/budget changes?) Both scores are added together to give you an Index score (schools may want to create a plan for indicators that have the highest index score) Improvement teams will also include a narrative to describe the current level of implementation. (Use the Guiding Questions for Team Discussions to assist with writing the narrative). Improvement teams can also copy and paste links in the box and if you have a document to upload as an artifact, write “see document entitled____ in document upload section” Select save indicator

23 Assessing Indicators After indicators have been assessed, improvement teams can see them listed including their implementation status

24 Reports Reports are also available to include more detailed information In the top right corner, you will see a “navigation toolbar” Hover over the toolbar to select “reports”

The reports section includes detailed report for each improvement cycle For an at a glance report, select list of indicators included in plan

Improvement Plan needs to be completed by September 9th Suggested to create 3 plans (one for each goal or you may have 2 goals for one objective) Select “create” to enter create a plan stage

30 Create a Plan After selecting “Create” this page lists objectives, index score, person responsible, target date and tasks. Objectives are also highlighted: Red - objectives need additional tasks to meet fully implemented or the team is undecided if the objective has been met Green – all tasks have been completed and the objective has been met Blue – new objectives needing a plan and or task created Select object to create and/or revise plan

31 Create a Plan This page displays Assessment information for each indicator at the top Complete Steps for Create Plan Assign team member in charge Write SMART Goal and include strategy Select end date Edit option is available

To view reports for your improvement plan, select reports in the navigation toolbar at the top right of your screen.

Last stage in improvement cycle is the monitor stag which is also ongoing until an objective is met.

Mid Year check due March 3, 2017 End of Year check due June 16, 2017 Most schools monitor monthly during goal team meetings and report progress to SIT monthly Monitor stage is similar to SIP mid year/end of year check Mid year is due March 3 and end of year check is due June 16 But, you may have more checks completed throughout the year Most schools monitor progress monthly during goal team meetings and report progress to SIT monthly. For these meetings, you will continue to input information in NC Star to document meetings and progress.

42 Monitor As teams monitor progress, continue to add notes from meetings and add / update / edit tasks as needed If all tasks have been completed and an objective has fully implemented, change the date to the completed date to show the objective has been met. When an objective has been met, team will select another objective to create a plan for and monitor You may have objectives that have 100% of tasks completed, but still in the limited/progressing implementation stage. Teams will continue to create action steps and monitor progress until fully implemented.

45 Task Report Lists detailed information for each objective all tasks assigned to objective

46 Progress Report Progress report gives information about the created plan including the number and status of tasks for each objective, the assigned team member, as well as the target date for completion.

Comprehensive Plan Report shows detailed activity of the school team’s work on the improvement plan including assessments, plans, tasks, monitoring, and implementation

49 What do we do if a goal has become fully implemented?
Create and monitor 3 goals/objectives at a time If you need another goal/objective to create and monitor, go back to your assessed indicators and choose a “limited” indicator with the highest index and priority score See indicators from reports - select “Detailed Report of Assessed Indictors” in the “Assess” column You may also have objectives that have action steps completed, but are still in the progressing/limited stage. Continue to monitor this objective by creating and completing action steps.

Where do we include student data? Results from Summative/ Formative Measures?, etc. Title I Schools – Comprehensive Needs Assessment Still required to complete Upload CNA into documents upload section Include data to support your smart goal Create chart in a word document and upload document section Include results from Formative Measures for Mid Year and End Year check (Summative Measures) CNA - spreadsheets should be available in data point soon until then, use available data from assessments (mclass, DE) and data portal (summative assessments), data point should have updated discipline and attendance data use sample CNA document to record data, strengths and weaknesses
