1 How to revise: What do you need to know:
Tip 1: Re-Read your key texts. You will not be allowed copies of your texts in the exam, the better you know the text the better prepared you will be for the different questions. Tip 2: Create notes on Key Characters/Themes/Context of each text. Make your notes brief, colour and easy to read. Mind Maps are a good way of collecting ideas. Tip 4: Learning Quotations Keep the quotes you are going to learn as short as possible. Write them on flash cards and ask friends and family to test you. What do you need to know: Paper 1 (2 hours): Shakespeare and 19th Century Texts Paper 2 (2 hours 15 mins) Modern Text, Poetry and Unseen Poetry Tip 3: Practise planning out exam questions. You don’t always need to write big long essays. Practise spending 10 minutes just planning what you would write in your essay is enough to get your brain working. Try adding the quotations you would use to your plan. Tip 5: Exam Practise Make sure you practise writing exam answers in timed conditions. Use the timer on your phone and timings advised by you teacher.

Tip 1: Read different types of fiction outside of school. Paper 1 will ask you to respond to a piece of prose fiction. The more familiar you are with this style of writing the more comfortable you will feel in the exam when faced with an unseen text. It will also help expand your vocabulary for your writing piece. Tip 2: Use your revision guides and workbooks. Use the revision guides and work books to practise different exam style questions. This will help you become familiar with the question styles before the exam. Tip 4: Read Non-Fiction Read the newspaper at home to familiarise yourself with the non-fiction style. What do you need to know: Paper 1 (1 hour 45mins): Creative Reading and Writing Paper 2 (1 hour 45mins) Non-Fiction Reading and Writing Tip 5: Exam Practise Ask your teacher for practise exam material. Make sure you practise writing exam answers in timed conditions. Use the timer on your phone and timings advised by you teacher. Tip 3: Practise planning out exam questions. To practise writing style questions you don’t always need to write a lot. Practise spending 10 minutes just planning what you would write in your answer is enough to get your brain working. You could then choose just one paragraph to write up.
