ATTENDANCE It is important to be here everyday. We begin morning tutorials at 8:15am. (Breakfast is served in the gym beginning at 7:30) Please call the office if your child is out sick. Please send a note with your child when he/she returns. Students are responsible for asking for the make-up work.

At any time that you are within the school building, you must check in at the front office and receive a name badge. Please be sure to bring your driver’s license for identification.

Weekly Folder Look for your child to bring home a red folder each week. Inside will be information on grades, upcoming events, and classroom performance/behavior. Signature required. Please return the following day

Language Arts Assurances
Read at least 120 wpm by the end of third grade in a grade-level appropriate story. Read independently and paraphrase what the reading was about maintaining meaning and logical order. Identify the meaning of common prefixes and suffixes, and word meanings based on their roots. Make inferences, draw conclusions, and apply comprehension strategies to conclude about stories Writes stories, letters, poems, and compositions

3rd. Grade STAAR Test This is the year that your child will be taking the STAAR test. STAAR test dates: Math May 8, 2017 Reading May 9,2017 On STAAR day, there is absolutely no assistance allowed from the teacher. Students will be taking the test completely on their own, including reading the stories and the math problems.

3rd. Grade STAAR Test (cont.)
The STAAR test is a timed test; its duration is 4 hours . This is why we encourage reading at home every night, so that the students can improve their reading skills while building their stamina to read on their own for a long period of time. STAAR test will have multiple choice and open-ended questions.

The Importance of Fluency
The student should read at or above 120 WPM by the end of 3rd. grade in a grade-level appropriate story. STAAR test has a 4-hour time limit Read the same book several days helps students to improve their fluency Allow students to read books of different genres, magazines, store flyers, newspapers, cartoons, etc.

Homework policy Homework must be completed and returned by Friday
Total homework assignment should not exceed 45 minutes. The daily homework will include independent reading, math, and spelling/ written assignments. Homework is graded based on completion and represent 10% of the final grade for math, reading and written communication.

School Supplies Please verify with your teacher if your child still needs school supplies We are still in need of copy paper, which was included in the school supply list Some items, such as pencils and notebooks, should be replenished later on during the school year
