1 Factor each polynomial completely. 1. 4xz2 – 2xz – 72x
Objective: Students will be able to factor quadratic trinomials. Standards: NC2.M2.A-SSE.3 Rewrite quadratic expressions Essential Question: If you were given the length and area of a rectangular garden, would you be able to find the width? Homework Factor each polynomial completely. 1. 4xz2 – 2xz – 72x 2. 6b2a – 36ba - 162a 3. 2b2 + 14b + 12 4. 35m m m2 5. 64p2 – 81

2 Solve Problems by Factoring
9/8 Objective: Students will be able to find zeros (roots/solutions) of a function. Standards: NC.M2.A-REI.1 Solving process for quadratic equations Essential Question: How are zeros (roots/solutions) of a function related to the factors? LESSON Standard form of a quadratic equation: ax2 + bx + c = 0 The degree determines the number of zeros (roots/solutions). You can not have a negative coefficient for x2. 3) Must be set = 0 to solve. 4) Zeros (Roots) of a function: Set factors = 0 and solve. Ex1. – 16x2 + 96x = 0 Ex2. x3 + 5x2 – 24x = 0

3 Objective: Students will be able to find zeros (roots/solutions) of a function.
Standards: NC.M2.A-REI.1 Solving process for quadratic equations Essential Question: How are zeros (roots/solutions) of a function related to the factors? Ex3. 4x2 + x = 5 Ex4. The area of the rectangle is 40 square centimeters. Find the value of x. Find the perimeter. x x + 6

6 Solve Problems by Square Root
Objective: Students will be able to find zeros (roots/solutions) of a function. Standards: NC.M2.A-REI.1 Solving process for quadratic equations Essential Question: How are zeros (roots/solutions) of a function related to the factors? LESSON 1) Only use if the “bx” term is missing. 2) Solve for x Ex1. a2 = 4 Ex2. 3 – 5m2 = - 9

7 Objective: Students will be able to find zeros (roots/solutions) of a function.
Standards: NC.M2.A-REI.1 Solving process for quadratic equations Essential Question: How are zeros (roots/solutions) of a function related to the factors? Ex3. The tallest building in the USA is in Chicago, Illinois. It is 1450 ft. tall. How long would it take a penny to drop from the top of the building to the ground? Use h = -16t2 + h0, where h is the height of the object after t seconds and h0 is the object’s initial height. Round to the hundredths if necessary.
