2 How did the USA react to the Cuban revolution of 1959?
The Americans were alarmed by the revolution as the island was a good place for trade and holiday. The USA placed an embargo on Cuba for American goods, they did this because Castro nationalized American owned businesses in Cuba eg oil refineries.

3 What were the causes of the Cuban missile crisis?
USSR started building missile sites in Cuba (1962). The Bay of Pigs invasion. US missile sites in Turkey. The nuclear arms race.

4 Why did Khrushchev choose to put missiles on Cuba?
To threaten the US. To protect Cuba. Because the U.S. has missiles pointing at the USSR (in Turkey) Cuba had recently became a socialist state which could be useful to the USSR with the domino theory.

Naval blockade. Diplomatic pressure. Do nothing

6 Bay of pigs invasion In 1961, anti-Castro Cuban exiles sent from US to invade Cuba. Around 1500 exiles were sent. – supported by CIA. Complete failure due to no air support, exiles didn’t make it further than the beach.

9 What were the consequences of the Cuban missile crisis?
The hotline – a telephone line from Washington DC to Moscow. This was a quick solution to any future crisis's. The partial test ban treaty of 1963 – this banned the testing of nuclear weapons in the atmosphere, outer space and underwater.
