1 Journal of Neuroimmunology
Vitamin D status and effect of interferon-β1a treatment on MRI activity and serum inflammation markers in relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis  Egil Røsjø, Kjell-Morten Myhr, Kristin I. Løken-Amsrud, Søren J. Bakke, Antonie G. Beiske, Kristian S. Bjerve, Harald Hovdal, Finn Lilleås, Rune Midgard, Tom Pedersen, Jūratė Šaltytė Benth, Øivind Torkildsen, Stig Wergeland, Annika E. 2 Fig. 1 Odds ratios for MRI activity at different 25(OH)D values.
Monthly odds ratios for MRI activity for continuous 25(OH)D values were estimated with logistical regression modeling based on paired MRI and seasonally unadjusted 25(OH)D results. Findings are depicted for values between 50 and 125nmol/L with new T1-weighted gadolinium-enhancing (T1 Gd+) lesions in panel a, new or enlarging T2-weighted (T2) lesions in panel b and combined unique activity (CUA) in panel c. Baseline results were only available for T1 Gd+. Interferon-β1a (IFN-β) treatment was initiated at study month 6. Error bars represent 95% confidence intervals excluding values exceeding 3.0. The analyses included 88 patients with 1033 T1 and 945 T2 and CUA measurements. Journal of Neuroimmunology  , 21-28DOI: ( /j.jneuroim ) Copyright © 2015 Elsevier B.V. Terms and Conditions

3 Fig. 2 Odds ratios for MRI activity during interferon-β1a treatment for patients categorized by seasonally adjusted 25(OH)D averages before initiation of therapy. The patients were categorized into patient quartiles by individual seasonally adjusted mean 25(OH)D values from baseline to month 3 (first quartile mean 50.2, second quartile mean 63.5, third quartile mean 75.3 and fourth quartile mean 97.4nmol/L), and aggregated odds ratios for MRI activity during interferon-β1a treatment (month 7-24) were estimated with logistical regression modeling. Results are shown as odds ratios with 95% confidence intervals for new T1-weighted gadolinium-enhancing (T1 Gd+) lesions in panel a, new or enlarging T2-weighted (T2) lesions in panel b and combined unique activity (CUA) in panel c in each patient quartile. The analyses included 88 patients with 431 T1, T2 and CUA measurements. Journal of Neuroimmunology  , 21-28DOI: ( /j.jneuroim ) Copyright © 2015 Elsevier B.V. Terms and Conditions

4 Supplemental Figure Seasonal variation of vitamin D levels and number of measurements. The monthly averages of seasonally unadjusted 25(OH)D serum measurements are depicted together with corresponding averages adjusted for seasonal variation by using a model predicting the fluctuations of 25(OH)D. Error bars represent positive standard deviations. 25(OH)D values were assessed for 88 patients and the number of measurements obtained per month is shown in the table below the x-axis.
