ACID RAIN (WET DEPOSITION) Acid Rain Monitoring First identified in 1872 in Sweden Studied in the U.S. in 1950s Acid Rain is precipitation (rain, snow, hail, dew, or fog) transports S and N compounds from atmosphere to the ground S and N reacts with H2O, O2, CO2 and sunlight in the atmosphere to form sulfuric and nitric acids Acid precipitation (rain/snow) with pH <5.6 (Babich and Davis, 1980) Distilled water in equilibrium with carbon dioxide under laboratory conditions The source can be man made or natural sources Acid Rain Formation Control Technology Acid Rain Effect to Environment
