8 Life before Selective Adoption
Historically Application upgrades used a big bang approach and took months/years of prep to be deployed Upgrades brought about a drastic change to the system. Users experienced a dramatic and shocking transformation Change management was a major part of any upgrade

9 Bundles, MPs & New Features
Bundles and maintenance packs were used to fix issues and to stay current with the technology Had to wait years for the new release, in order to take advantage of any new enhancements and features. Was forced to take all of the changes that were part of the upgrade

10 What is Selective Adoption
Oracle releases the PUMs on a set schedule – every 10 weeks We download and deploy the PUM image We select the specific updates and apply them to the system on our own schedule and only the relevant changes that are applicable to us This is consuming at a bite sized rather than the whole enchilada approach

11 What is Selective Adoption
Advantages: Helps us to be always current with the application technology and functionality, without the big and involved upgrades Ability to plan better implementation of PUMs around our maintenance schedule Disadvantages: Always in the upgrade mode and users are in a constant mode to test the application functionality. Can use PTF to overcome this!

12 What is a PUM Get new & innovative functionality without an elaborate upgrade Absorb only the changes that you want, for what modules you have Determine your own schedule for adoption Continue to have your own customization strategy

14 What do we include in our PUMs?
Features New feature roll outs Compliance Tax Updates and other regulatory requirements Issues Fixes to the Issues and Bugs reported by customers

15 Our Approach Compliance, Security fixes
All compliance changes and security fixes will be implemented mandatorily

16 Our Approach Issues As soon as the PUM is released, ITD checks against the issue list reported by business users, maintained internally. Issues related to the application and the custom/customized objects, on a quarterly basis Will apply all fixes related to the issues above Application and tools issues fixed by Oracle

17 Our Approach PUMs applied Annually Apply all of the PUMs released in the preceding year, on an yearly basis, during Jan-June timeframe excluding the fixes already applied (as listed above)
