About Me… I am married with a six year old in Grade one at Glen Stewart Elementary I have 12 years teaching at West Kent. Mostly in Grade 1. Experience in Kindergarten and Grade 2. 2 years at Westwood Primary Grade One.

Safety Allergies no nut products, no wow butter.

Homework 4 books assigned on Monday Homework Monday-Thursday
5 words will be assigned each week. Small test on Fridays. Math- practice counting from 0-20 forwards and backwards and from different starting points. I will give weekly tips on how you can support the learning in the classroom at home.

Safety School “ visitor pass ”
Children are taught that all “safe visitors” will wear an identification pass. Stop in the office, pick one up and sign in and out. Fire Drill, Bus Evacuation and Lock Down Safety Practices (we have had two walk through fire drills).

Safe Arrival Please try to have your child arrive on time 8:20 a.m.
Programming starts at 8:30 and it is disruptive to the class when people arrive at different times.

School Dismissal Pick up at 2:35 side entrance Bus
Change of plans please call other wise we will follow plans stated on the forms you filled out.

Curriculum Literacy: Reader’s Workshop (Guided Reading), Writer’s Workshop (Ideas, Conventions, Sentence Fluency, Word Choice, Voice) A look into many genres of writing, personal narrative, fiction, small moments, non-fiction, procedural etc. Numeracy- Math Makes Sense – Number Sense, Patterning, Geometry and Measurement, Addition and Subtraction Technology- chromebooks Social Studies-Unit 1 Groups (rights and responsibilities) Unit 2 Environment, Unit 3 Place and Time, Unit 4 Needs and Wants Science- Daily and Seasonal Changes, Materials Objects and Our Senses, Living Things. Health- Wellness, Relationships, Life Learning Choices

Physical Education Mrs. Szwarc has requested : * If possible all children wear velcro sneakers in the gym if they are not able to tie on their own yet. * It is required to wear long hair tied back. * Children wear safety glasses when playing badminton. The school will provide them or parents may purchase their own pair for their child. * Leggings are to be worn under a dress/skirt.

Communication I rarely check my email during the day
If you want to reach me please call the office and ask for me or leave a message I believe two way communication is vital to your child having a successful year in grade one. Volunteers need Criminal Records checks.
