2. שפריריות (שם מדעי: Zygoptera) הן תת-סדרה בסדרת השפיראים
במנוחה, כנפי השפריריות הבוגרות מוחזקות לאורך הגוף ובמקביל אליו. השפריריות אינן יכולות ללכת.
השם Zygoptera מגיע מן היוונית - zygo משמעו "מחובר" או "זוגי", ו-ptera הן כנפיים. לשפריריות שני זוגות של כנפיים דומות, בניגוד לשפיריות (Anisoptera) שכנפיהן האחוריות רחבות יותר.

3. כנפים צמודות שפרירית הדורה
את השפיריות ממיינים לשתי תת-סדרות:
שפיריות (Anisoptera): שוני כנפיים, כנפיהן האחוריות גדולות יותר, רחבות יותר במקום חיבורן לגוף, ובעת מנוחה הן פרושות. (dragonflies)
שפריריות (Zygoptera): שווי כנפיים, ארבע כנפיהן זהות בגודלן, צרות בבסיסן, וצמודות זו לזו בעת מנוחה. (damselflies)

6. השפריריות עוברות גלגול חסר, עם שלב נימפה שוכן מים
השפריריות עוברות גלגול חסר, עם שלב נימפה שוכן מים. הנקבה מטילה את הביצים במים, לפעמים מתחת לצמחיה או במרומי העצים בין עלים ובמקומות אחרים שבהם נקווים מים. הנימפות ניזונות מדפניות, זחלי יתושים ואורגניזמים שוכני מים קטנים אחרים. לשם כך הן מצוידות בלסתות מוארכות, דומות לאלו של נימפות השפיריות. זימי הנימפה חיצוניים לגוף וגדולים, ודומים לשלושה סניפים בקצה הבטן. לאחר כמה מחזורי השלה מגיח הבוגר המכונף, הניזון מזבובים, יתושים וחרקים קטנים אחרים. כמה מהמינים הטרופיים הגדולים ניזונים גם מעכבישים.

Exuviae is a term used in biology to describe the remains of an exoskeleton and related structures that are left after ecdysozoans [verification needed] (including insect, crustacean or arachnid) have moulted. The exuviae of an animal can be important to biologists as it can often be used to identify the species of the animal and even its sex.

12. These insects cannot fold their wings flat against the body - dragonflies hold them straight out to the sides, damselflies hold then vertically toward the rear. Both families mate in flight and lay their eggs in or close to the water

Sapphire Rockmasters are large damselflies with thick body. They rest with wings spread, much look like dragonflies. They likes to perch on the vegetations about a meter over the running water. When we went near them, they flied away while we were still two meters away. They flied to a higher position and keep watching at us. They returned to the same spot after we went away.
