2. Dealing with Different Personality Styles
Student leadership development includes learning how to relate to all types of people. Students learn the four basic personality styles and how to best relate to each type. They also get a better understanding of their own personality style. This makes it easier for students to work closely with other people.

3. Presentation skills
Presentation skills are essential to leadership, and during the week the students had several opportunities to give speeches while they practice the persuasive skills of eye contact, movement, and vocal variety.

5. Planning & Teambuilding Skills
Students also have several opportunities to practice teambuilding activities. Their current tasks are to choose the school name, motto, colors, and song for the Class of 2017 as well as create plans for upcoming school events.

6. Listening Skills
We stress the importance of listening attentively to be effective. Exercises in listening both as a group, and in one-on-one conversations highten the awareness of the importance of listening. Students also learned how to use active listening skills to make sure they understood what the person meant.

Making real decisions

Students from grades 6, 7 & 8 are encouraged to contribute to and participate in decision-making in their school.
Students should be active citizens of the school community and have their ideas and opinions routinely sought and respected

8. Confidence Building
At a time when teens want to conform to each other, confidence-building student leadership activities help students become aware of their uniqueness and their own leadership qualities. Because leaders must have the courage to act in spite of their fears we will look at ways teens can access their inner courage at any time.

10. Polishing the Diamonds
Like polishing a diamond, there are many facets that go into the making of a leader, and each one is important
The Leadership class ends with presentations by the students about a leader of their choice.

We will be watching various movies that incorporate the theme(s) that we have been studying.
Permissions forms will be sent home as needed.

12. “The teenage years are the critical period for developing leadership skills”
Any student can grow in leadership skills with the proper instruction and practice. Our country needs strong and courageous men and women who can lead with integrity. Student leadership programs in high schools, middle schools and youth groups are a great way to polish the brilliant diamonds that will become our country’s leaders of the future.
