American art was much like American literature, focusing on nature and ones inner emotions. People at the Hudson River School would often travel around to find more beautiful sceneries. Art caused many people to move west to find beautiful sceneries. Slaves ended up forming much of Americas art by creating baskets and pottery instead of paintings and drawings.

Following Ones Conscience
Authors such as Ralph Waldo inspired many to improve themselves spiritually. People started to look within themselves, books, and nature to improve their lives. People began to have strong spiritual beliefs, and many started to believe that their spiritual life was more important than then the non-spiritual world they lived in. Unjust laws were now peacefully protested instead of using violence to protest. Some were punished by the law because they refused to pay taxes that supported violent wars.
