29 July 2008 Instructor : Rahul Dubey
2
Welcome to the world of Electronics !
3
Sequence of Electronics Courses
Core Courses ( All have to study) Basic Electronics Circuits – 1st Semester Digital Logic Design – 2nd Semester Computer Organization ( Microprocessor ) – 3rd Analog Circuits – 4th Semester Embedded Hardware Design – 5th semester Electronics Group Electives – 6th semester onward VLSI , Embedded system design
4
Types of electronic devices
Analog devices Resistors, Capacitors, Inductors, Operational Amplifiers, Diodes, Transistors… Digital devices Microprocessors, Digital Signal Processors, Application Specific Integrated Circuits (ASICs)
5
The role of electronic devices
These devices rarely operate just by themselves They are interfaced to variety of other mechanical or communication interfaces. Example of mechanical & electronics (Mechatronics)
6
Our course of study Practice problem solving. In class and using tutorial sheets. ( Network and circuit analysis) Learn to use the simulator ( Multisim ) to simulate electronic circuits Become comfortable doing electronic experiments in the lab.
7
Course Work Course Write up ( Course contents,Lecture schedule, Books)
BEC EL_103.pdf Not all lectures will be available in the lectures folder. It is therefore advisable to be regular in class!!
8
Evaluation for EL 103 ( Autumn 2008)
The evaluation is divided in three parts Two in-semester exams First exam ( 8 to 10 September ) 20% Second exam ( 13 to 15 October ) 20 % Lab work and Viva – 25 % Final Exam ( 24 to 28 November ) – 35 %
