1 Why have historians divided time into two parts, BC and AD?
Review Question Why have historians divided time into two parts, BC and AD?

2 Possible Answers Historians have divided time into two periods so we can have a sense of how long ago an event occurred. BC events are further in the past, and the higher the number, the more in the past the event was. AD events are nearer to the present, and the higher the number, the closer we are to our current time.

Hominids are creatures that can walk upright, on two feet. At one time, there were various SPECIES of humans alive, at the same time, in Africa. Some began to move to other places, like Europe and Asia.

19 Some moved over a land bridge from Asia to Alaska, so humans entered the Americas.
How did our species, Homo sapiens, end up being the only species of humans still alive?

20 Video Clip See this clip (DE – The Evolutionary Process of Humans) about how early humans moved about the world and established themselves!

21 Our Species, Homo sapiens
Extinction is a natural part of the evolution of species. Human species that were better at hunting, protecting themselves, and adapting to their environments ended up surviving better than weaker species. Homo sapiens is now the only species of humans alive.
